Spectral Imaging Tower
Successors to PhotoSpec
Originally tasked with copying designs from a lab at Boston University, I ended up re-designing and building the first trailer-based tower-mounted solar-induced fluorescence canopy scanning system for Dr. Troy Magney's lab at the University of California, Davis.
Challenged by the 2020 pandemic and subsequent supply-chain issues, I managed to rapidly overhaul the original design to incorporate proper ventilation of the electronics systems. Since the equipment is sensitive to changes in temperature, I added climate control systems and an enclosure with hardware racks so all electronics could endure California summer heat while maintaining temperature stability.
As if one tower system wasn't enough - a second, stationary system was also requested of me in a similarly short time-frame. Fortunately I managed despite other logistical challenges I faced as I was simultaneously handling other projects as well as lab management at the time.
The systems are still in use today and I am proud of what was accomplished during the onset of the pandemic.
